Associate Training Curriculum

Adult and Child CPR/First Aid/AED

This American Red Cross CPR/ First Aid/AED training is open to all OVIS associates with advance registration. Full courses and refresher courses are available throughout the year. Come ensure your certification is up to date.

ESL (English as a Second Language) Courses for Spanish Speakers

Open-Close

Learn how to extend a warm and professional greeting to all of our English-speaking guests! These interactive language lessons will review and teach new English language skills for providing five-diamond day-to-day communication with our guests. Native Spanish speakers come and learn how to speak conversational English with our guests and co-workers alike. Topics include greetings, pleasantries, calendar, weather, and hospitality terminology.

Email Etiquette

Come learn business and OVIS protocols for email use. For many of us, email is our primary form of communication, and being a savvy email user can make (or break) key relationships.

Fire Extinguisher

Come learn how to properly use a fire extinguisher. First responders must attend, but the course is open to all OVIS associates. Facilitated by the Ventura Fire Department.

GOAT & the Art of Service Recovery

This course reviews our most common GOATs, our new GOAT form and the art of service recovery with in-depth role-plays and real guest examples. This course should be taken annually by all associates and managers.

GOAT 2.0- Advanced Guest Recovery

Open-Close

This critical course will review real-life guest scenarios in-depth and review the expert art of five-diamond recovery. All staff are encouraged to attend this advanced level course!

GTSPS

The Forbes criteria includes a measurement of our service GTSPS; Graciousness, Thoughtfulness and Sense of Personalized Service. This course will refresh all staff in exceeding not only the Forbes and AAA criteria, but also in creating lifetime memories for our guests

Healthy Work Habits

This safety refresher course is focused on behavior based safety. This half hour course will engage you in a conversation about occupational safety. What happens to injury and illness reports once they are completed? What are the outlets for safety communication? This training focuses on improving lifting techniques. Let’s all take part in the safety conversation and be an active part in preventing accidents in the workplace.

Multi-media Professional Image

Email etiquette, Outlook calendar protocol, mobile and telephone etiquette. This course is excellent for administrative and all staff throughout the resort who frequently or primarily communicate through media other than face-to-face communication. Come learn how to deliver a professional image in all forms of communication.

Name Recognition

Have you ever considered yourself “not good with names?” If so, then this is the course for you! Come learn tried and true name recognition techniques in order to provide meaningful name recognition to every guest.

New Hire Orientation

Start all new hires off with the necessary resort pride and knowledge to be successful at Ojai Valley Inn & Spa. This interactive 2 day training is mandatory for all new hires within their first 30 days of employment.

PINK MOMENT: Hardwiring our Service Standards

Learn how to consistently deliver our Service Standards: Pink Moment with every person every time. This course will teach how to intuitively deliver extraordinary service that goes beyond the AAA and Forbes standards and provides our signature OVIS behaviors every time. This course is an annual required training for all associates.

Professional Image: Dress & Grooming

Dress for the position, promotion or level of respect you want. This course goes beyond our policies and breaks down exactly what is and is-not appropriate in developing your professional image. Come learn fun and proven dress and grooming tips and boost your professional image overnight.

RESPECT: Sexual Harassment & Discrimination Prevention

TIPS (Training for Intervention ProcedureS)

This course is a 5-hour training in the Certified TIPS program, which is a positive approach to the sometimes difficult problems we face in selling and serving alcohol. About 70% of adults in the U.S. drink alcohol and we want to ensure we provide an enjoyable environment for both our guests and our staff. This course is mandatory for all bartenders, servers and Loss Prevention officers, and will be held monthly.
